Attention all artists and art-lovers!!!!
Here's your chance to display, and even sell, your artwork!
The show will be open to all convention attendees,
so even if you don't enter your own work in the show,
you still have the opportunity to see and buy original works
by both professional and amateur artists.
Space is limited, so send in your artwork today!
(See below for rules.)

Artist pick-up of unsold art:

Setup and Closeout
For any artists not attending the con (though we'd love to have all of you),
artwork will be held until after final closeout and then mailed back to you,
unless we are specifically instructed otherwise on your registration form.
The entry fee for all participants in the Vericon Art Show is
$5 per person if received before Friday, January 18th, 2008, or $10 at the door.
Please make checks payable to the Harvard-Radcliffe Science Fiction Association.
Payment for entering the art show should be sent with your
Art Show Entry Form,
whether or not you are mailing in your artwork.
This ensures that we will reserve a space for your artwork,
until the end of setup, 10AM on Saturday.
If you intend to enter pieces that cannot be described
(i.e. you plan to create a fifth piece before the con,
but it's not ready when you wish to send in your Form),
complete as much as possible, indicating that situation,
and we will arrange for your needs.
As you finish the piece, please send updated information by e-mail or post,
and we will add it to your original Entry Form.
If you miss the deadline for mailing in your Form,
just bring it to the door, and
we will try to accommodate you on a first-come, first-serve basis.
If possible, mail your artwork to:
Nora Moseman
483 Cabot Mail Center
Harvard University
Cambridge, MA 02138
Mailed-in artwork must be RECEIVED
by Friday, January 18, 2008.
If you feel that you will not be able to make this deadline,
please get in touch with art@vericon.org
to make alternative arrangements.
The Art Show staff strongly recommends that
you insure all items against damage in transit.
If you do not plan to pick up your artwork,
and would rather have it shipped back to you,
include with your sent artwork the additional cost of shipping.
This should equal the cost of shipping TO Vericon.
Any difference in the cost due to sold artwork will be refunded
and included with your returned art and check for sold works.
Also, label the artwork as outlined below.
If you plan to personally bring your art to the
con—and we would love to have you—be sure to be there
at least three hours before opening.
Space is limited, so we will accept art on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Clearly label all artwork.
This label must include the title, artist's name, postal address,
or other contact information.
This information should be securely attached to each piece of artwork
so we know to whom every piece of art belongs.
Vericon is NOT responsible for the loss of any unlabeled artwork.
Mailed-in artwork MUST contain a complete inventory of all pieces submitted.
We wouldn't want anything to get lost!
You must provide the following information
(form available here):
title of piece, size, brief description,
minimum bid price (if for sale), Quick Sale price (if for sale, optional),
number of copies (for prints), preferred closeout day,
a final count as to the number of pieces, the name of the artist,
postal address, phone number, and email address.
If you only wish to display artwork rather than sell it,
please write NFS (Not for Sale) wherever the issue of price arises,
as well as in the Minimum Bid box on the piece's bid tag.
All preview images should be sent to
art@vericon.org.
The preferred format is a 400x400 pixel (or larger) JPEG (.jpg) file,
72 dpi with copyright information in the image itself.
However, this is by no means required—submissions can be in any format
(.jpg, .gif, .tif, etc.) or size.
You may submit a preview image for any artwork which you plan on bringing to Vericon,
but keep in mind that you MUST bring any artwork
for which you have submitted a preview image.
All submitted artwork should pertain, in some way, to the themes of the convention.
This means anything related to science fiction, fantasy, gaming, or anime is welcome.
Remember that art can take many forms—from 2-D to 3-D, from sculpture to drawing.
Please mount or frame any 2-D pieces and be sure all sculptures are free-standing.
Keep in mind that the show will be open to all Vericon attendees,
so only submit work that is appropriate for all age levels.
Also, please observe normal safety regulations.
Vericon reserves the right reject any piece of art and disallow its display
for any of these reasons.
All art must be your own work.
This does not mean that you may not submit pictures of existing characters,
but you may not submit copies of pictures done by someone else
(unless you are an authorized agent of the original artist with a signed letter).
Multiple prints of your original work will be allowed
and are counted as a single piece of art
(see below for more details about prints).
Additionally, all art that is not original, "one-of-a-kind" work
(i.e. if it's a cel, photocopied from your original sketch and painted in)
must be marked as such.
As the coordinator and staff are unable to recognize and catch everything
that is or could be a copy, Vericon does not take responsibility
for such situations and will not be held at fault if legal infringements occur.
All attendees have the opportunity to buy "For Sale" pieces in the art show.
This is done through bidding.
All "For Sale" pieces will have a bidding tag, stating a minimum bid price and a Quick Sale price (if available).
If a buyer feels he absolutely MUST HAVE a piece and does not wish to chance bidding, he may purchase it immediately by meeting the Quick Sale price and informing the art show staff on duty.
The piece may remain on display until closeout, but will be labeled as SOLD to prevent others from bidding.
If a buyer wishes to place a bid, he must fill in the appropriate information on the tag, and await the Closeout time that the artist has chosen for that piece.
The highest bidder at the time of closeout wins the piece.
(Once a piece has been bid on, "Quick Sale" is unavailable.)
All buyers must be present at the Sunday 2:00 pick-up time to finalize transactions.
Vericon will arrange for the sale, but will not charge commission for any work.
Please provide a receipt for the sale.
This can simply be a piece of paper stating the price and signed by the artist.
Prints of your original work will be accepted, whether limited or open edition.
Prints must be labeled as such, and, if limited, indicate the total number of prints made from your original.
If you are unsure of this number, or do not plan to sell them as limited edition prints, you must indicate the number you will make available at Vericon.
If you have an original or print framed or otherwise display-ready, please indicate if it will be for sale.
The display-ready piece may be sold by Quick Sale or auction.
All additional prints may be sold at a set price (i.e. Quick Sale, only) and will be available at the art show staff desk.
Pickup times for unsold artwork are stated above as Final Closeout and Takedown.
All artwork will be removed at this time.
Artists who choose to have their unsold pieces returned by mail must pay for shipping costs prior to the con (see Mailing).
All others MUST pick up their unsold art.
All artwork not removed by 3pm on Sunday (one hour after closing) will be given away.
